Basket, little masterpieces of memory Stars of the DePadova objects collection Attention to detail, a passion for handicrafts and for objects from
times past have always characterized the display accessories chosen for the De Padova showroom. Time-honoured hampers, baskets and the wickerwork ’backpacks’ that peasants traditionally used to carry firewood still reflect the ancient patterns. And they still feature among popular modern and sophisticated design items. They belong to the so-called anonymous design, or humble masterpieces, as they were labeled in the 2004 New York Moma exhibition, organized by Paola Antonelli. So this explains why the DePadova collection includes a huge selection of baskets – made in different places and of different materials. Handwoven Shaker baskets – which testify to the exceptional skills of the Shaker community – join oval boxes of various sizes made of cherry wood bent with steam and joined with copper nails. African baskets with woven graphic designs for use all over the house as containers and then leather log baskets to place beside the hearth. No longer anonymous, but inspired by traditional designs, are the baskets made by Annalisa Cocco and Roberta Morittu. With their "Imago Mundi" collection they highlight the variety and potential of traditional Sardinian crafts and culture with the use of wild olive, asphodel, coloured threads and remnants of different fabrics. ![]() |
