"In my opinion style means coherence, consistency, singularity of the parts in a homogeneous chorus. I don’t like stores or even homes where such disparate objects are accumulated that they just create confusion. Blending is an art that can be learnt, but there must be a previous concept to which one’s choices must correspond."

"Fashion and design are quite different. The culture of the home is not the culture of wearing, which is easier to know and transmits quicker messages, hence more rapidly comprehensible. Design calls for longer times to be understood, accepted. A home cannot be changed with the same speed as a dress. I have a modern taste, but defining it required a considerable amount of courage. Maybe one feature that design does share with fashion, is the possibility of transmitting emotions, fulfilling desires rather than selling pure and simple products.

"The first question I ask myself, looking at a piece of furniture or at a project is: what is it for? What can I do with it? There are such a lot of things today, that conceiving a new product is difficult. Beauty and function. The story of my life has taught me that beautiful is useful and useful is beautiful."

The home we choose is duration against the ephemeral, is the form of our everyday life. We live it and perceive it in different ways, depending on the seasons of life, but also simply on the moods of a day.
We create imaginary paths that brush against objects, sofas, tables, chairs, bookcases, curtains, cushions. It is never a direct path, running straight like certain slopes in the countryside, but is full of unexpected twists and turns. They are the transits of fantasy and memory, which slow down and accelerate when they meet the light-coloured wood of a table, the soft parabola of an armchair.
Like memories.
The effort of a lifetime, aware or not, is to seek – we will say it in Maddalena De Padova’s own words – "a coherence, a consistency. Singularity of the parts in a homogeneous chorus." The journey of the gaze and of the mind learns along the time to connect, to replace confusion with order, to restore a lucid significance to things. "Blending is an art that can be learnt,” Maddalena De Padova has always repeated, “but there must be a previous concept to which one’s choices must correspond."
If the word contamination had’nt lost sense and value in the globalization of the planet, we would use it to describe the continuous discoveries in the combinations of objects of different countries and cultures by which, over the last 50 years, De Padova has contributed to renew and transform the taste of Italian people in living their home. Light, colours, materials, fabrics, but also irony and lightness. Emotions, even before furniture and objects. The transparent and strong atmosphere of history and memory, individual yet universal. This is the meaning of the journey. This is De Padova home.
