'Nest' at the SUN 2008 fair SUN 16 – 19 ottob september 2008 Aksu e Suardi for De Padova
The first edition of “Da Nido a Guscio”, an initiative sponsored by the magazine Ottagono, will be presented at the SUN 2008 fair in Rimini. The event, which will be repeated every year, will involve 10 designers invited by Ottagono and SUN to design outdoor furnishing in partnership with 10 manufacturing companies chosen by the designers themselves. This first edition theme is designing objects as welcoming as nests, resistant to weather conditions and easy to be stored. The selected companies have produced the prototypes which will all be displayed in a single, special installation. De Padova has been chosen by the designers Sezgin Aksu and Silvia Suardi to manufacture “Nest”, a comfortable and welcoming seat. Nest can be easily assembled and quickly removed. The “nest” consists of a reclinable half-sphere made comfortable by soft cushions of different sizes; the seat position is adjustable and, after having removed the cushions, the frame can be hung on a wall.
“Nest” technical description: Painted metal tubular frame covered with elastic strips. Cushions in expanded polyurethane with completely removable covers. Painted metal tubular base with anti-slip rubber. Plastic feet.
A short curriculum Turkish designer Sezgin Aksu studied in Germany with Richard Sapper and Ingo Maurer, and in France. They worked for about ten years in architect Michele de Lucchi’s studio, and have been working together since 2001. In their Milan studio they develop interior design and graphic design projects. Their different cultural backgrounds and training are their strong asset. They both teach in several architecture and design schools. In 2007 they won a Red Dot Design Award with the Utoo system, manufactured by Nurus (Turkey).
