22-25 October 2009
Light and color, materials and fabrics. Irony and lightness. These are the ingredients of the dream of De Padova. For the first edition of Milano Design in the City,
the shop windows on Corso Venezia suggest environments for the home, the office and public spaces in the simple, linear style of the brand guided by
Valeria and Luca De Padova, the company’s second generation.
Under a sky of ethereal lamps, like hovering clouds, the atmosphere is one of welcoming harmony. Alongside the great classics designed by Vico Magistretti and the latest creations of Jasper Morrison, Aksu/Suardi and Nendo, De Padova presents three new products, in a premiere for Milano Design in the City.
The first debut in the collection is the
Alternata bookcase, a new wall component system by Lemongrass. Rectangular storage modules in different widths and depths alternate in a game of full and empty segments. Open and closed boxes that seem to play hide and seek. Maximum strength to contain home technology, books, objects, clothes, combined with minimum thickness of the shelves, and a profile that underscores lightness. Without spatial limitations, Alternata is perfect for small walls, fulfilling dreams of infinite combinations.
Presented as a prototype at the Salone del Mobile 2009, the
Lavenham Executive armchair by Patricia Urquiola now appears in its definitive version, with a radial base or legs in ash wood. For dining or meetings, its back reprises the quilted look of the Lavenham chair, with soft padding inside the seat. Versatile and easy to use, but never banal. For those who dream of a decor that lasts, modern but independent of fashions, where work and domestic intimacy combine.
The third debut is the
Sundance folding chair by Paolo Golinelli. The teak structure is paired with strong fabric for the seat, the sides and the back. Light – also in terms of its price – and manageable, inside or outside the home. Perfect with any table. Here it is seen with Otis, as in an ideal bistro.
The voyage between research and innovation taken by Luca De Padova in the development of the products continues, finally, in the objects department. Suggestions from the world, objects of the future and the past mingle in a very personal selection, the result of the intuitions and encounters of Maddalena De Padova and, today, of the constant, enthusiastic research of her daughter, Valeria. Carpets, baskets, candle holders, wooden toys, jewelry, books. Unique, fundamental details to create a special atmosphere.
This is the uniqueness of the De Padova style. A collection that combines usefulness and beauty. However the individual pieces are mixed, the result is always harmonious. Design spreads emotion.
