A Japanese room divider with delicate shapes that give it rhythm wherever it is. The Shoji room divider is one of those furnishings that due to their lightweight design add light and airiness to a room. Made from a slender, unpainted, wooden trellis with an even grain that shows its original texture, it’s an object that is inspired by Japanese interior design. One side is covered in fine Echizen washi paper from the Fukui prefecture, a material with a thousand-year-old history, strong and impalpable, seamlessly applied to the fusuma (sliding door) and the byobu (screen). Shoji’s three panels are joined by paper hinges glued to washi paper on partitions made exclusively in cedarwood and free of hardware, as dictated by traditional Japanese style. The height of the room divider is 135cm, slightly lower than standard height, but enough not to be seen when seated, while imbuing the room with brightness and depth. Available with just the Akita cedar frame or covered in washi paper, Shoji adds rhythm to a space.
