Almayer

Designing means knowing, it doesn’t mean having intuitions.” The director’s chair, a known and recognised object in the world of design, is revised and revamped with Almayer. The chair, in black stained ash and leather, is thus defined by the relationship between different components combined into a design of binary contrasts. Tradition and innovation, elegance and simplicity, technology and craftsmanship, wood and leather, folded and open.

“Almayer is the protagonist of ‘Almayer’s Folly’, Joseph Conrad’s first novel published in 1892. In my mind, the folding timber and leather chair immediately reconnects to the relaxed and evocative atmospheres characterising the incipit of many of the Anglo-Polish writer’s novels”
